Microcenter has had the 240GB Extreme SSD for $169.99 for a while now, and still does.
Also, the 120GB Extreme is $89.99
Plus, SanDisk has a FW update that will allow the Extreme SSDs to work with the Nvidia SATA chipsets at SATA 3Gb/s (SATA II) speeds. They also fixed the temperature sensor bug some of these SSDs had.
What surprised me is the firmware update to version R211 worked when this SSD was connected to a Marvell 9128 SATA chipset! I did that on two EX SSDs, just to be sure. Never had a FW update work like that before!
that is something I needed to know, moving to Nvidia had me worried but no longer !
I have 2 of these, the first one I bought for 274USD back in Jan 2012, the second one I bought from Amazon for 159.00USD a fews back on a Gold Box Special. These are really good drives, worth every penny.
Sandisc Extreme 480gb on sale for 362.00

right now not going for 500gb drives or rather i'd go for it if they offered 500 gb SLC LOL, but that would be way too expensive. imo even some of the 500gb SSDs nowadays are still overpriced especially considering prices are dropping, although I do think most of the 240gb size SSDs are fairly well priced at around 160-180 ish. any higher than 200 would be a bit much, and usually those belong to marvel/samsung drives and probably due to extra cost on DRAM.
If i were to go for a 500gb I'll probably wait till it gets to 300, so maybe another year or two? and if i do go for one it'll be marvel instead of sandforce. currently I have 8 solid state drives and 7 of them are sandforce LOL. sandforce for boot drive is great, OS and most files use compressible data so it works great but 500gb probably meant storage more than a work drive, so i'll get a marvel/indilinx/samsung for it.
There are alot of SSDs betwwen 480gb and 512gbs that are in the 300.00 range, the Sandisc Extreme was on sale for 339.00 for the 480gb, the Samsung 830 can be had by reputable vendors on Ebay for 375.00 for the 512gb, the Mushkin Chronos Dx 480 is only 369.00, they will be under 300 by Feb. 2013.right now not going for 500gb drives or rather i'd go for it if they offered 500 gb SLC LOL, but that would be way too expensive. imo even some of the 500gb SSDs nowadays are still overpriced especially considering prices are dropping, although I do think most of the 240gb size SSDs are fairly well priced at around 160-180 ish. any higher than 200 would be a bit much, and usually those belong to marvel/samsung drives and probably due to extra cost on DRAM.

Feb 2013 seems a bit away, tax here in Canada is expensive, easily 12-13% of any purchase. so i'm looking at SSD at 270 would mean it's basically 300, hurts lolThere are alot of SSDs betwwen 480gb and 512gbs that are in the 300.00 range, the Sandisc Extreme was on sale for 339.00 for the 480gb, the Samsung 830 can be had by reputable vendors on Ebay for 375.00 for the 512gb, the Mushkin Chronos Dx 480 is only 369.00, they will be under 300 by Feb. 2013.
