it's really unfortunate Newegg Canada don't have this product yet. although I do think 270 plus tax seems a bit high, I could get 830 much cheaper and only about 5-10% less in performance. any 840 pro SSD reviews coming soon? been waiting for it since forever!Samsung 840 and 840 Pro SSDs are at Newegg

I don't know what Samsung's deal is. Personally I think they are afraid of fill testing on the 840. I think Tiger Direct is sending me both drives in all capacity sizes since Samsung only wants to send the fastest PRO for review to TweakTown. We'll see though but I think fill testing is going to be pretty bad, esp on the TLC drive.
with TLC rated at 1k write cycle? I ain't going to purchase one, thats for sure, if anything can't be less than 3k MLC. for most people understands SSD would not write so much to the drive, this TLC definitely should not be for average user. I have known friends filling up their 500gb drive so fast with everything on it, just picturing what they write to their drive, it must be crazy.
unless samsung somehow knew everyone getting their 250gb TLC drive going to change every year or so, I don't see a point getting it.
TLC NAND is a pile of crap for sure but its not because you will wear it out because it will take at least 3 years to wear out the NAND its because it has lousy performance due to its architecture.
Im not trying to bash TLC or anything but from the trend, SLC to MLC (sandforce) write speed basically drop by 40-50% for incompressible data, I'd think from MLC to TLC is another drop, which TLC should only be used for other controller (Indilnix, Samsung, Marvel etc). I have also heard from a friend of mine working in this field that TLC has much higher failure rate when compared to MLC and SLC, which is probably why SLC flash is so much more expensive.
I just read something funny on the TLC 840 drive from SSDreivew. drive cost $200 dollars as it gives lower performance overall and provides a crappier nand flash, which cost the same as 830 drive. don't know if $200 was the target price here or maybe just Samsung trying to earn big bucks from people who don't know anything. I seriously have friends with 3k/5k SSDs who had their drive died to daily usage and constant writes in just a year and half to 2 years, so this TLC probably not looking so good.
I maybe looking at the 840 Pro with MLC when it's reviewed, or else probably just go for intel 525 or OCZ's new barefoot drive. I'm hyped!

You mean if OCZ exists by the time they release the BF3. You can buy 500 shares of their stock for the price of 1 V4 512. Soon they will be delisted and out of business if things do not turn around for them.I just read something funny on the TLC 840 drive from SSDreivew. drive cost $200 dollars as it gives lower performance overall and provides a crappier nand flash, which cost the same as 830 drive. don't know if $200 was the target price here or maybe just Samsung trying to earn big bucks from people who don't know anything. um hopefully they'll last lol but i'd rather the company stay and somehow turn it around. it'd be sad to see a company uses their own controller go =(. well nevertheless TLC drive sucks and I ain't getting one no matter what happens..
They changed that until 11/6/2012 now. I think these drives will be good but not that much better than the 830, maybe the Pro version will be better but for an extra 100.00USD it should have something besides 12gbs less storage, the ad says its only 500gb, unformatted .Samsung 840 and 840 Pro SSDs are at Newegg
